Jerry Lewis to Return to Performing

LAS VEGAS -- As reported by the Associated Press: ``Jerry Lewis was at home after a routine follow-up examination of a surgically implanted device that blocks chronic back pain, a spokeswoman said.

``The 76-year-old entertainer is telling friends that for the first time in decades he's free of the pain acquired during years of taking pratfalls for laughs.

```He's fine,' said Candi Cazau, spokeswoman for The Orleans Hotel & Casino, where Lewis has a long-term contract to perform. `His whole goal is to be pain-free and medication-free.'

``Lewis, who lives in Las Vegas, might begin performing regularly again at The Orleans in October, Cazau said on Tuesday. He last appeared on stage there in April 2001.

``...Lewis underwent surgery April 8 at a Houston hospital to implant a battery-powered pulse generator near his lower abdomen..."
