Japanese Town Plans Casino

SAKAI, Japan – As reported by the Daily Yomiuri: "The municipal government of Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, the hometown of tea master Sen no Rikyu, is planning to build a casino complex containing a theater and tea room, local government sources said.

"…The construction will cost about 36.2 billion yen (US$316.86 million), and the town estimates that about 1.21 million people per year will flock to the complex.

"The project is estimated to have an economic impact of about 101.8 billion yen a year and bring in between 6.5 billion yen and 8.9 billion yen in tax revenues in the first year…"
