Jamul Tribe to Hear from Public12 September 2006JAMUL, California – As reported by San Diego Union Tribune: "When Sharon Trewin leaves work at the garden fountain store she manages on state Route 94, she doesn't even try to make a left turn to get to her home on Proctor Valley Road a few miles to the east. "If she did, with late afternoon traffic what it is on the increasingly busy two-lane highway, Trewin might wait five minutes before taking the heart-pounding risk of pulling out. "…Like many in the growing East County bedroom community of Jamul, Trewin dreads the added traffic a large hotel-casino would bring. The Jamul Indian Village plans to build a casino on its 6-acre reservation near Melody Road. "Tomorrow evening, Trewin and others can state those concerns at a public workshop to discuss the controversial project's Tribal Environmental Impact Statement, which was issued Aug. 25. "If the tribe's last public gathering is any indication, the 5 p.m. event is likely to draw plenty of protesters. At a ceremonial groundbreaking in December, scores of protesters lined the highway, shouting at passers-by…" |
