Jamul tribe moves ahead with casino

JAMUL INDIAN RESERVATION, California – As reported by the San Diego Union Tribune: "For more than 15 years, tribal dissidents Walter Rosales and Karen Toggery have been a thorn in the side of successive administrations of the Jamul Indian band.

"Now leaders of the East County tribe say they're about to evict the oppositionist duo and raze their homes to build a long-sought, $200 million casino.

"But Rosales and Toggery aren't packing. They say they're shielded by the unresolved status of the latest in a series of unsuccessful court appeals.

"…Tribal leaders say they will issue eviction orders by mid-November. What happens then will depend on the contrasting views held by the Jamul tribal government on the one hand and Rosales and Toggery on the other.

"…Tribal officers say neither Rosales nor Toggery is on the official roster of tribal members, although they acknowledge both have long ties to the tribe and the necessary lineage to qualify for enrollment…"
