Ireland: Dundalk plans to drive tourism forward20 January 2014DUNDALK, Ireland -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- The Dundalk Tourism Committee is hosting its inaugural fundraising effort with a ‘Night at the Races’ on Friday 28th February 2014 to raise funds that will be reinvested into tourism initiatives in the North-East region. The event, which will be held at Dundalk Stadium, is the first ever tourism gathering to celebrate all that Dundalk and its wider environs offers the discerning tourist and the creation of a tourism fundraising drive for the region. The event is open to all tourism businesses and organisations and is an ideal social networking occasion. The Dundalk Tourism Committee was founded with the objectives of promoting Dundalk and its greater environs as a tourism destination and to provide a ‘meeting of minds’ for all stakeholders in the region to generate ideas and expertise. The committee is entirely voluntary and given the creative inputs thus far has generated ideas to produce tangible events that will drive footfall to the region within 2014 onwards. Given the voluntary capacity and lack of funding; the Dundalk Tourism Committee wishes to operate in the market place, therefore, the committee has decided to become more active and generate funds to put back into the local tourism drive. Sean Farrell, Chair of the local Tourism Committee said: “Attracting holiday-makers and short-stay visitors remains a significant challenge for tourism businesses in the area and the efforts of the local tourism committee need to progress to tangible events and marketing campaigns. In order to do this, we need to self-fund and the inaugural fundraising effort at Dundalk Stadium is a means of gathering the funds to translate into a tourism campaign. We ask all local businesses and tourism providers to support this fundraiser and play their respective part in assisting generate much needed funds that will benefit the wider Dundalk region.” |
