Iowa Voters Reject Riverboat Casino

SPENCER, Iowa – As reported by the Associated Press : "Voters in Clay County in northwest Iowa rejected a proposed riverboat casino on Tuesday.

"The unofficial vote was 3,049 against the proposal to 1,960 to approve it.

"…Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission members have said they're sending the issue to lawmakers to get guidance on cruising requirements for riverboat casinos, further definition of what is a lake or reservoir, and set a limit on the number of excursion boats allowed in Iowa.

"…So far this year, four counties -- Palo Alto, Worth, Black Hawk and Wapello -- have voted to authorize gambling. Four counties -- Dickinson, Cerro Gordo, Linn and Clay -- have voted against it."
