Iowa senate committee discuss implications of online poker legalization

20 April 2011

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Native American casinos could also expand their online wagering offerings to punters, if online poker is legalized at casinos, an Iowa regulator informed legislators yesterday, the WCF Courier reported.

Native American tribes operate as sovereign nations who are permitted to provide precisely what is legally allowed in the state, the report explained.

Currently Iowa senators are discussing a bill, that originally included a provision to legalize intranet poker through a "state-controlled hub", WCF Courier said.

However, the Senate committee now wants to examine how Iowans participate illegally in online poker and how it might be prudent to regulate it, the report added.
