Iowa Park Changes Approved4 May 2005OTTUMWA, Iowa – As reported by the Ottumwa Courier: "Ottumwa Park will look far different in the near future. "Council members on Tuesday approved two major changes in the city's biggest park. The Wapello County 4-H received permission to build a new structure to house their expo adjacent to the Jimmy Jones Shelter House. The Little League complex was a harder sell, but still passed by a comfortable margin. "The proposed complex unites the three Ottumwa Little Leagues within a single location. Ottumwa's proposed casino is the impetus for the plan. The casino will be constructed on land currently occupied by the National Little League. "That means a move for the league. City Administrator Steve Rasmussen said the heads of the three leagues came together in early April and backed the plan. "'This presumes that the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission will grant Ottumwa ... a license,' Rasmussen said. "…The public funds come out of bonds issued for infrastructure improvements for the casino. Casino revenues pay off the bonds. "The entire project is contingent on Ottumwa's receipt of a license…" |
