Iowa mayor wants casino compact amended25 June 2007WATERLOO, Iowa -- As reported by the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier: "Mayor Tim Hurley would like the ability to use a portion of projected casino revenues for city operating expenses, allowing the budget to keep pace with inflation. "He is asking the City Council and the Black Hawk County Gaming Association to amend a 2003 agreement and to allocate a greater portion of casino revenues --- allocated by the association --- for property tax relief in the county or its municipalities. "In exchange, Hurley is proposing the agreement allow the association to devote 10 percent of its revenues to 'entities or projects outside Black Hawk County to support the Cedar Valley.' "...Hurley and gaming commission Chairman Don Hoth said they have discussed the matter for some time..." |
