Iowa Gaming Commission Holds Hearing2 May 2005WATERLOO, Iowa – As reported by the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier: "Supporters of three competing casino proposals in Black Hawk County spent six months promoting the benefits of their plans. This week, they may be asked to defend them. "The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission is scheduled to hold a daylong hearing Wednesday in Johnston. It will hear public comments and probe 10 gaming license applicants from across the state, including proposals in Waterloo. The options in Black Hawk County are for a National Cattle Congress casino near the former Waterloo Greyhound Park, a downtown project and an Isle of Capri facility near Lost Island Adventurepark. "Commission members accepted license applications in November, read consulting reports and visited each proposed location. They also heard presentations during a two-day meeting last month. But commissioners have been mum about their opinions and have not indicated how many casino licenses, if any, will be issued. "Ketterer anticipates commissioners will begin commenting on their individual philosophies following the public hearing and may approve a motion setting the number of licenses they plan to issue. Action on approving individual licenses is expected May 11…" |
