Iowa Gambling Factions Look for Common Ground

DES MOINES, Iowa – As reported by the Sioux City Journal: "Lawmakers and interest groups on both sides of the gambling debate say they will look for common ground on helping gambling addicts, whether than means putting new restrictions on credit card machines at casinos or restricting access at the door.

"The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission has asked lawmakers to clarify how the state deals with problem gamblers, and including some restrictions in any gambling expansion bill might be instrumental in getting the votes needed for passage.

"Chuck Hurley of the Iowa Family Policy Center said his organization hopes there are more limits placed 'on the ability of people to do stupid things with their money.'

"…Gamblers can currently access cash on their credit cards at casinos, but those with addiction problems can choose to make their credit cards unusable at gambling facilities.

"…Every casino or racetrack in the state currently allows gamblers to ban themselves from using credit cards there or ban themselves from entering the premises…"
