Iowa County Needs to Pick Casino Proposal7 January 2005WATERLOO, Iowa – As reported by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier: "Black Hawk County's chances of promptly landing a new gambling facility are slim unless the community declares support for one of three competing proposals for a gambling facility within the county's borders, Iowa House Republican leaders said Thursday. "…The decision ultimately lies with the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission, which plans to award an undetermined number of gambling licenses, possibly in the spring. "Three local gambling interest groups filed applications in November for a license to operate a casino in Waterloo. They are among 10 proposals statewide filed with the Des Moines-based commission. "Community support is among the criteria the gaming commission must consider before issuing a new license, but there's nothing restricting or penalizing communities for putting forth multiple proposals. "…Isle of Capri Casinos Inc., of Biloxi, Miss., was the first proposal on the table in Black Hawk County. "…Cedar Valley Gaming has proposed a $99 million Cedar Landing Hotel & Casino, to be constructed downtown on the west side of the Cedar River between West Fifth and West Sixth streets…" |
