Iowa County Holds Casino Debate

IOWA – As reported by the Des Moines Register: "Representatives of Gary Kirke and Isle of Capri Casinos faced opponents in Madison County on Tuesday night, the only night of debate between the two sides over whether to bring a new casino to central Iowa.

"The forum teetered between the virtues of gambling and whether the proposed $150 million casino would be good for the community.

"Supporters of a proposed casino and hotel said the venue would spur economic development and help elevate growing property-tax demands.

"Opponents, lead by the Sink the Boat Madison County group, countered that the price was too high for such dubious claims, saying crime would surely increase and the small-town community would be disrupted…"
