Iowa County Helps Fund Casino Project

IOWA – As reported by the Washington Evening Journal: "Concerned citizens were five deep through the door and into the basement of the County Courthouse, this morning, and the Board of Supervisors' chambers was at standing-room-only capacity, as the board considered, and then passed, 2-1, an 11th-hour memorandum of agreement with the City of Riverside and its new casino to help fund a sewer and water project.

"The agreement would have the county loaning the City of Riverside its bonding capacity to fund a multi-million dollar new sewer and water system that will also accommodate the Washington County Casino Resort. The water bonds would be paid back through a tax increment financing district that will siphon tax money from the casino-developed land for 10 years…"
