Iowa City Rejected for Casino Site

IOWA – As reported by the Des Moines Register: "Waukee city officials had thought their city was the preferred site for a $150 million hotel and casino in Dallas County, but learned Monday the site for the project has fallen through.

"Jamie Buelt, spokeswoman for local businessman Gary Kirke, who is seeking to bring a casino to a site in Dallas, Madison or Warren county, said there currently is no Waukee site.

"…Buelt said landowners were interested in selling, but they could not all come to an agreement about the property - located near Booneville at Dallas County Road R22 off Interstate Highway 80.

"Instead, Buelt said Wild Rose Development LLC, the group of Kirke and Isle of Capri Casinos, is exploring an option to purchase 110 acres in the northwest corner of the DeSoto exit off I-80 on the west side of U.S. Highway 169.

"Buelt previously said the DeSoto site was a backup location in case voters in Waukee did not approve the casino issue on the Nov. 2 ballot. It now is the only Dallas County site being considered…"
