Iowa Casino Race to Run Until May19 November 2004DES MOINES, Iowa – As reported by the Quad-City Times: "The race to join Iowa's next fleet of riverboat casinos will not reach its finish line until May under a timeline released Thursday by the Racing and Gaming Commission. Between now and then, commissioners will hear aggressive sales pitches, receive public comment and take a motor coach tour of 10 proposed riverboat casino sites. "Ten casino projects in seven Iowa counties filed applications last week for riverboat licenses. But the five-member commission has given no indication of how many licenses it will hand out. That uncertainty is sparking a spirited competition between applicants. "Among those applicants are three separate projects in Black Hawk County in and around Waterloo, a rural casino project in Worth County near Northwood and projects in Franklin, Palo Alto, Wapello, Washington and Webster counties. . "…In early May, the commission will hear public comment on the applications. Commissioners also will be given time to ask applicants questions about their projects. By the end of that meeting, it's expected that the commission will shed more light on how many casino licenses it plans to issue…" |
