Iowa Casino Proposals Clear Hurdle

WATERLOO, Iowa – As reported by the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier: "All three Black Hawk County casino plans seeking state gaming licenses have now cleared their zoning hurdles.

"Waterloo City Council members voted unanimously and without discussion Monday to approve a site plan for the proposed Black Hawk County Greyhound Park and Casino, which the National Cattle Congress hopes to open near the former greyhound racing facility at the intersection of U.S. Highways 218 and 63.

"The proposed Isle of Capri casino near the Lost Island Adventurepark and the proposed Cedar Landing Hotel and Casino downtown received zoning approval in late 2004 for their construction plans.

"…Members of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission are expected to vote Wednesday on which, if any, of the 10 applicants statewide will receive gaming licenses…"
