Iowa casino proposal shot down5 December 2007CHEROKEE, Iowa -- As reported by the Sioux City Journal: "Cherokee County residents shot down efforts to locate a casino in their county by voting 719-419 against a ballot measure authorizing a gambling structure in the county. "The Cherokee County Auditor's Office reported the turnout represents about 13 percent of the 8,806 registered voters. "In late September a petition signed by 700 registered voters supporting a casino was presented to the Cherokee County Board of Supervisors.
