Iowa Casino Plan Faces Council Vote

BURLINGTON, Iowa – As reported by the Hawk Eye Newspaper: "The Burlington City Council will vote during a 7 p.m. Tuesday meeting on the second reading of an ordinance that, if it passes on all three readings, will give local entrepreneur Randy Winegard city permission to build a new casino off Roosevelt Avenue.

"Two weeks ago, the council voted 4–1 in favor of the ordinance, which would create and adopt a planned unit development for Winegard's property, which already features his Best Western Pzazz hotel and new FunCity.

"After hearing two hours worth of opposition, mostly from pastors of local conservative Christian churches, during a Feb. 6 meeting, Mayor Mike Edwards and councilmen Tim Scott, Garry Thomas and Bill Ell voted in favor of the ordinance on its first reading. Councilman Mike Campbell cast the lone dissenting vote…"
