Iowa Casino Groundbreaking Unusual

NORTHWOOD, Iowa – As reported by the Iowa Globe Gazette: "Like the years-long effort that proceeded it, the groundbreaking today for a new Worth County casino was a bit unusual.

"The event was held inside the nearby Top of Iowa Welcome Center due to bad weather. While most might have simply rescheduled, officials forged ahead anyway and dug into a symbolic container of dirt with green shovels.

"Unorthodox, yes.

"Typical, though, of a group that doesn't listen to conventional wisdom — and prevails.

"…Thanks to the vision of county residents, Worth County Development Authority and Peninsula Gaming, a new $40 million casino should be open by early 2006…"
