Iowa casino funding approved

WATERLOO, Iowa -- As reported by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier: "Area cities will get equipment, local charities will receive financial help and programs serving children will get a shot in the arm.

"The Black Hawk County Gaming Association recently approved its first round of grants based on gaming revenue generated at the Isle Hotel and Casino at Waterloo. The group funded 19 grant applications totaling nearly $727,000.

"Don Hoth, president of the nonprofit gaming association, said the organization received 79 applications with more than $11.9 million in requests.

"...The Black Hawk County Gaming Association holds the state gaming license for the casino, which opened in southeast Waterloo in late July.

"...Projects in downtown Waterloo have already been earmarked to receive 25 percent of grant dollars, including a $3 million advance and $1 million gift. Grants announced Saturday are the first in a competitive process..."
