Ione city council may oppose tribal casino

IONE CITY, California -- As reported by the Amador Ledger Dispatch: "In an unexpected action at Tuesday night's meeting, the Ione City Council voted to schedule a special meeting to discuss the possibility of official opposition to the board of supervisors signing an intergovernmental services agreement with the Buena Vista Rancheria of Me-Wuk Indians.

"...The council was prompted by pleas from a number of residents, starting with Jill Curran's emotional presentation. As a representative of the group Friends of Amador, Curran stated their belief that the lawsuit filed by Amador County against the federal government has had much greater influence than is generally attributed to it.

"...Curran also expressed concern for the water supply situation in Jackson Valley, site of the proposed casino.

"...Councilman Jerry Sherman said that he had doubts at the time about the decision to turn negotiating power for the Buena Vista casino project over to the county supervisors. That said, the council voted to call the special meeting..."
