Inside Gaming Column: Wynn's Off-The-Wall Gift Benefits19 April 2004The Wynn Collection is winding its way to Reno. Las Vegas developer Steve Wynn says he will close the Wynn Gallery at the old Desert Inn in June for six months. He's working out a deal with Harrah's Entertainment Chairman Phil Satre to move all of the gallery's 11 works of fine art by masters from Rembrandt van Rijn to Pablo Picasso to the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno, which opened last year. Wynn's excited about sharing his collection with more Nevadans. Satre called it a big coup for Reno. *** Capitalizing on its recent acquisition of Binion's Horseshoe in Las Vegas, Harrah's Entertainment is holding qualifying tournaments in six of its casinos all across the country this month for the World Series of Poker. The $250 buy-in no-limit Texas hold`em satellite games take place Wednesdays at 6 p.m. each week in Atlantic City, where interest is said to be greatest. The top five players from each week will advance to a May 5 tournament, with the top finalist winning a $10,000 entry into the May 22 World Series, along with round-trip airfare to Las Vegas and lodging. *** Want to bet? BoDog.com Sportsbook and Casino is actually posting odds on who will win the upcoming World Series of Poker. Even though Ben Affleck has hired himself a poker coach, Affleck is still the extreme long shot to take the World Series of Poker. Affleck's odds are listed at 1,000-to-1. Phil Ivey, considered the best No Limit player in the world, is coming out strong at 12-to-1. Howard "The Professor" Lederer is very close behind Ivey at 14-to-1. And it's no big secret that Phil Hellmuth is an excellent poker player, but he's at 16-to-1 odds. *** Another take on the World Series of Poker. Phil Helmuth, the bad boy of poker who won the tournament at 24 in 1989, is proving there's more to gain than just winning the pot. Scuttlebutt is that he's about to sell a new book to Harper/Collins due out April 2005; has just optioned his life story (until age 24 anyway), called, "The Madison Kid" to a major studio; and is working on a new TV show for syndication. That, it seems, is more than 15 minutes of fame and what it means to win really big. *** Humor ahead. The Motley Fool simply tore Donald Trump apart last week. Why, asked the Fool, were we mesmerized watching Trump name Bill Rancic as the newest executive in his debt-laden empire? Shouldn't we worry that the $250,000 salary earmarked for the show's winner would be enough to buy 100,000 shares of Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts?
