Inland Casinos Profit from Coast Disaster

MISSISSIPPI – As reported by the Alabama Mobile Register: "License plates from across the region tell the story at the Poarch Band of Creeks Bingo Palace: Biloxi's devastation translates into good times for gaming operations that escaped Katrina's damage.

"'Our business has almost doubled in Atmore,' said Arthur Mothershed, chief financial officer for Poarch Creek Indian Gaming.

"At the Palace in Atmore and at gaming operations on tribal lands in Montgomery and Wetumpka, Alabama's only federally recognized Indian tribe has electronic bingo very similar to slot machines.

"Even smaller operations like Bingo Haven on U.S. 90 in Mobile have enjoyed crowded parking lots, according to Helen Miller, who manages the Littlefield Corp. gaming operation.
