Indonesian official dismisses legalized gambling idea

INDONESIA – As reported by the Jakarta Post: "Governor Sutiyoso has dismissed the idea of legalizing gambling in Kepulauan Seribu regency, a concept rekindled from the 1960s administration of former governor Ali Sadikin, which is currently being floated at the City Council.

"Sutiyoso said Monday the price of legalizing gambling was too high, and it would never happen under his authority.

"…Sutiyoso said the city police had done their best to oppose the city's gambling industry by carrying out regular raids.

"…The issue of legalizing gambling in the restricted area was floated two years ago following a string of police raids against gambling activities in the city…"
