Indicted Gaming Agent Claims Promise Broken10 February 2004COLORADO – As reported by the Rocky Mountain News: "A former state gaming official indicted for allegedly selling poker chips claims that officials with the Gaming Division and Colorado Bureau of Investigation promised he wouldn't be charged if he resigned his post. "Steve Barber, former agent in charge of gaming in Cripple Creek, is asking a Jefferson County judge to enforce the alleged promise and dismiss the charges against him. "But Jefferson County District Judge Thomas Woodford postponed a hearing on the matter Monday until the officials Barber claims made the promises can be called to testify. "…Barber was indicted on a felony charge of embezzling public property and five misdemeanor charges of official misconduct. He is accused of making nearly $100,000 selling poker chips from the casinos he regulated. "…Barber began testifying Monday about a meeting he had May 21 meeting with George Turner, former head of enforcement of state gaming and lottery operations.
