Indiana Teens Gambling at Casinos3 August 2005INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – As reported by the Louisville, Kentucky Courier-Journal: "About 3 percent of Hoosier high school students told researchers that they have wagered at a casino, even though the minimum age to board an Indiana riverboat for gambling is 21. "Seniors reported the most casino activity, with 4.4 percent saying they had gambled at a casino at least once in their lifetimes, according to an annual survey released this week by the Indiana Prevention Resource Center at Indiana University. "Slightly more than 1 percent of seniors said they gambled at casinos weekly or daily. "…Mike Smith, the executive director of the Casino Association of Indiana, said he's doubtful that so many teenagers have been able to get past riverboat security to gamble. "…The Indiana Gaming Commission's executive director, Ernest Yelton, said that Hoosier riverboats also are vigilant about keeping minors from gambling. "In the past six months, the commission has fined casinos a dozen times for allowing minors to board the vessels…" |
