Indiana Lawmakers Weigh VLTs12 July 2005INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – As reported by the Louisville, Kentucky Courier-Jounral: "Key lawmakers said yesterday that the General Assembly -- not the Hoosier Lottery -- should determine whether the state installs video lottery terminals or electronic gambling machines to generate revenue for the budget. "Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Bob Meeks, R-LaGrange, supports the concept of video gambling machines at bars, restaurants and social clubs -- something that already occurs illegally in many instances. But he said yesterday that it should be done by the legislature. "…Esther Schneider, executive director of the Hoosier Lottery, has asked the attorney general's office for an opinion as to whether current law allows the lottery to offer new games such as video gambling. "Schneider told The Indianapolis Star that she would implement such a plan only with legislative support. She also said she is considering whether to offer keno -- a fast-paced numbers game -- but only if she has legislative support…" |
