Indiana House Approved Pull-Tabs

5 February 2004

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – As reported by the Fort Wayne Journal: "The House voted 53-39 Wednesday to allow the opening of four quasi, land-based casinos - including one in Fort Wayne.

"House Bill 1188 authorizes each of the off-track betting parlors in Fort Wayne and Indianapolis to have 1,500 slot-like, pull-tab gambling machines. The state's two horse tracks would have 1,000 devices each.

"…Proponents of the legislation say the machines will provide a stable revenue stream for the state's horse tracks and fledgling agribusiness industry.

"Wednesday's vote was the first time the House approved such a measure. Senate leaders, though, don't support the proposal. Gov. Joe Kernan also has said he opposes pull-tab machines as an expansion of gaming.
