Indiana gaming panel gets new head

FRENCH LICK, Indiana -- As reported by the Bedford Times-Mail: "Ray Walker, who lives east of Paoli, was elected chairman today of the newly formed Orange County Development Commission. The group was established by the Indiana General Assembly and replaces the Historic Hotels Preservation Commission, which had been formed in 2003 as the local group that would help bring a casino to Orange County.

"Walker owns a commercial renovation and building company.

"Max Apple, a former Orange Circuit Court judge, was elected to serve as vice chairman of the panel, and Ron Clark, who is retired from the banking industry, was elected as treasurer. Remaining members are Pat Schmidt, who works for Reynolds, Inc., and George Harrison, who retired from Kimball International.

"...In its first official action, the commission voted to hire Paoli attorneys J.C. Tucker and David Umpleby to serve as its legal counsel. The two had been attorneys for the HHPC..."
