Indiana counties, casino battle over gambling money12 February 2007INDIANA – As reported by the Louisville Courier-Journal: "Three Southern Indiana counties and the Belterra Casino have spent the last year privately battling over an agreement for the riverboat to share its riches with the counties. "Leaders in Ripley, Crawford and Jefferson counties say their shares are shrinking each year, and that they've pressed unsuccessfully to renegotiate the deal. "Barring an unforeseen breakthrough, county officials said last week, they'll appeal to the Indiana Gaming Commission to help resolve the dispute. "…But Belterra officials said they are meeting the terms of their local development agreement with the counties, which are either neighbors to the casino or had been in competition for a casino license, and that the counties are crying foul now because the terms of the deal don't suit them…" |
