Indiana Casinos Will Stay Afloat

13 December 2004

INDIANA – As reported by the Northwest Indiana Times: "Indiana riverboat casinos will stay afloat even in a sea of competition, said Rick Mazer, general manager of Horseshoe casino in Hammond.

"The Lake Michigan boats face heightened competition when an Illinois taxation system unfavorable to that state's casino industry expires in July.

"There's also been renewed talk of a casino in Chicago, and Indian tribes are moving to build land-based casinos just outside Indiana borders, in Lynwood, Ill., and New Buffalo, Mich.

"…It remains to be seen whether the administration of newly elected Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, a Republican, will make changes affecting the casino industry.

"…Illinois casinos are likely to begin marketing campaigns early next year to try to get back customers who drifted away last year, some to riverboats in Northwest Indiana
