Indiana casinos prepare for Four Winds

MICHIGAN -- As reported by the Indiana Post-Tribune: "When Four Winds Casino opens its doors to the public Thursday in New Buffalo, Mich., the 220,000-square-foot facility will house thousands of eager gamblers in addition to its 2,400 employees -- many of them with roots in Indiana.

"That means that the other five Northwest Indiana casinos will feel at least a temporary hit, a state the casinos are anticipating and planning against.

"Blue Chip casino is in the riskiest position, being closest in distance to New Buffalo, but its officials said they're ready for the competition.

"...Majestic Star lost about 50 employees, most of which were from the table gaming department, said David Schugar, vice president and general manager of both Majestic Star casinos.

"...He combatted the problem immediately by doing internal training and promotions, and he said the casino is still hiring others for nearly all departments within the casinos.

"...Horseshoe Casino said its number of employees making the change was very small. Most of those who left did so for a reason, said spokeswoman Shelby Curry -- 'people who had disciplinary problems, wanted promotions, or were seeking a fresh start.'

"Joe DeRosa, general manager of Resorts East Chicago casino, said he's been in the business for 30 years, so he's used to the anticipation and excitement that comes along with a new casino..."
