Indiana Casino Numbers Dip Slightly

INDIANA – As reported by the Cincinnati Post: "With only four August weekends instead of last year's five, betters at Southeast Indiana's riverboat casinos wagered 5 percent fewer dollars last month compared to August 2003. However, year-to-date numbers continue to outpace the first eight months of 2003.

"Gamblers wagered $821 million at the three casinos in August, down from $865 million in August 2003.

"They still managed to lose almost as much, however. The casinos' August winnings edged a bit lower to $63.7 million from $64.1 million a year ago.

"…All three gambling venues -- Argosy, Belterra and Grand Victoria -- took in less in total wagers in August. Betting was off by more than 10 percent at Grand Victoria in Rising Sun, largely a result of less action at its slot machines. Lawrenceburg-based Argosy and Switzerland County's Belterra each dropped by about 4 percent.

"…Argosy's winnings slipped less than 1 percent to $38.1 million. Grand Victoria's take fell nearly 8 percent to $12.2 million. At Belterra, despite a decline in wagering, winnings grew by almost 7 percent to $13.4 million…"
