Indiana Casino Boats' Results Slip

21 December 2004

INDIANA – As reported by the Cincinnati Enquirer: "Southeast Indiana's riverboat casinos appeared to lose a bit of momentum in November, as the calendar gave them only four weekends to attract gamblers this year compared to five November weekends in 2003.

"As a result, the level of overall wagers and the casinos' gambling revenues declined at two of the three Ohio River resorts.

"Only Belterra Casino near Vevay, Ind., which underwent a major expansion of its adjoining hotel and entertainment facilities, reported increases for the month.

"Overall, wagering at the three sites was off 2 percent to $766 million in November, compared to $783 million in November 2003 when there was a fifth weekend on the calendar.

"Casino winnings -- or the amount of money lost by their patrons -- edged marginally higher to $58 million from $57.8 million last year.

"…Year-to-date through November, all three of the tri-state casinos continue to outpace 2003. Overall wagering is up 4 percent to $8.9 billion, and overall casinos winnings are 8 percent higher at $679 million."
