Illinois senate approves casino bill

20 September 2007

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois -- As reported by the WCIA News: "The Illinois senate approves a bill that will use 3 new land based casinos to pay for road repair, school construction and transporation around the state.

"Two of those casino's could be outside of Chicago, but not everyone's sure gambling's the best way to pay for it.

"Some senators say paying for this through gambling is a tax on the poor, but others say this bill was needed to bring in revenue.

"Senate President Emil Jones and Republican Leader Frank Watson shook hands after passing the plan that includes almost 650 million dollars for school construction. That will help out local schools like Rochester that have been waiting years for the funding.

"The plan also bails out the Chicago Transit Authority while setting aside money for downstate transit.

"More than 4-billion dollars will go to fix up roads and bridges around the state..."
