Illinois senate approves casino bill

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois -- As reported by the Northwest Illinois Times: "The Illinois Senate late Thursday voted to approve four new casinos and to let all existing casinos expand.

"A new Chicago casino would be based on land instead of water and would be publicly owned. Another casino could be southwest of Chicago and just a few miles from Indiana's popular gambling boats.

"The casino expansion would generate roughly $2 billion for the state. The money would be used for education, health care and building new roads and schools.

"The Democrat-backed measure passed 30-29 and now goes to the House, where Democratic and Republican leaders say there is little appetite for a major gambling expansion..."
