Illinois Replaces Anti-Rosemont Gambling Official

ILLINOIS – As reported by Illinois Daily Herald: "At the same time the governor called for stringently investigating the choice of Rosemont for a casino, state officials went about removing a key member of the gambling board's staff who recommended against Rosemont.

"State officials Wednesday announced the 4-year term of Joseph Haughey, deputy administrator of enforcement for the Illinois Gaming Board, would not be renewed. Instead, Louis Tijera, a lieutenant with the Illinois State Police, will replace him. Illinois casino operators were notified of the change Wednesday in an e-mail.

"Haughey, who is a state police inspector, was one of five gambling board staff members charged with making a recommendation on which of three proposals should get the 10th license. The five unanimously recommended against Isle of Capri's proposal to build in Rosemont - the proposal the gaming board picked.

"…Haughey's term expired last Friday and will be extended for 90 days to break in his replacement. He said he did not know who decided to replace him but that the decision rested with the state police…"
