Illinois Municipality Rejects Gaming Resolution

12 February 2004

ILLINOIS – As reported by the (Illinois) Star: "The Hazel Crest Village Board Tuesday rejected a resolution to support gaming in neighboring Country Club Hills, according to a village spokeswoman.

"The rejection may cost the village a potential $700,000 in annual revenues that Country Club Hills Mayor Dwight Welch is offering to share if the city lands the state's last casino license.

"…Country Club Hills is one of five municipalities bidding for a gaming license from the Illinois Gaming Board. The proposed casino would be located on the Gatling Property at Interstates 80 and 57. The gaming board is expected to decide which municipality will receive the license on Feb. 23.

"…After nearly two dozen people voiced their opposition of a gambling facility on the village's borders, the board voted 4-2 to reject the resolution.

"…Hazel Crest is the first area municipality to oppose the casino plan…"
