Illinois Mayor Arrested in Gambling Raid

MAPLE PARK, Illinois – As reported by the Associated Press: "The mayor of this Kane County community was released from jail Saturday on bond after he was accused of participating in illegal gambling activities at a tavern, officials said.

"But the Illinois attorney general's office - which said Friday night that the town's police chief had been charged with official misconduct in connection with the case - recanted that assertion Saturday.

"Melissa Merz, a spokeswoman for the office, had issued a press release after a raid at D.J.'s Tavern naming Mayor Mark Delaney, the bar's owner and manager, six bartenders and the police chief as being charged.
