Illinois lottery launches summer promotion

A special component of the "Million Dollar Summer" includes offering 16 lucky, second-chance players the opportunity to walk away with at least $50,000 and up to $1 million in cold, hard cash. The Lottery plans to award the $2.5 million in second-chance prizes during a grand finale event to be held in September.

"We're giving away tons of cash prizes during our 'Million Dollar Summer' promotion, so players will feel some real sizzle," said Illinois Lottery Director of Marketing Sarah Cummins.

Like previous second-chance summer promotions, players must send in $30 worth of non-winning, qualifying instant tickets from the "Million Dollar Summer" ticket suite and/or Lottery online tickets. Beginning May 22, and running for 16 consecutive weeks, the Lottery will select one weekly winner to qualify for the fabulous grand finale event.

During last summer's second-chance promotion, "Set For Life," Christy Davis of Yorkville Ill., won $100,000 every year for the rest of her life in front of a sold-out crowd at Wrigley Field.

"Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God. I don't believe it," exclaimed Davis, a 9-1-1 operator, the moment she won the grand prize. "No more overtime for me!"

All qualifying instant tickets are marked with the "Million Dollar Summer" logo in the upper right hand corner. These tickets include: "Go-fer the Green" ($1 ticket), "Summer Splash" ($2 ticket), "Pot of Gold" ($3 ticket), "Hot Spot Summer" ($10 ticket) and "$75 Million Mania" ($20 ticket).

"It's especially fun for players when the Lottery offers games they already know and love," said Cummins. O

ne ticket of note is the "Price is Right" ($5 ticket), which gives players the chance to test their luck playing several games from the popular game show, including "Plinko," "What's up for Bid," "Spin the Wheel," and "Showcase Showdown."

All online games (Pick 3, Pick 4, Lotto, Little Lotto, Mega Millions and Pick 'n Play) purchased between April 1, 2007 and August 31, 2007 are also eligible for the second-chance drawing.
