Illinois Governor Doubts Gaming Board

ILLINOIS – As reported by the Chicago Tribune: "The Illinois Gaming Board's decision to ignore the recommendations of its staff, along with past problems surrounding the state's 10th casino license, show that the board isn't up to the task of thoroughly investigating the attempt to put a casino in Rosemont, Gov. Rod Blagojevich said Monday.

"'The fact that you have all of these allegations of nefarious people involved and possibly in a position to benefit from this license, that to simply trust the Gaming Board I think is asking the taxpayers and all of us too much,' Blagojevich said after an unrelated event on Chicago's Southwest Side.

"The governor is expected to appoint a special investigator this week to help the board look into the suitability of both Rosemont and Isle of Capri Casinos, the company based in Biloxi, Miss., that was selected by the Gaming Board to build in the northwest suburban village. The Gaming Board's staff recommended giving the license to the company that wanted to build in Des Plaines.

"…Blagojevich said enough serious questions were swirling about the casino to warrant his involvement in resolving them…"
