Illinois Gaming Board Shorthanded12 January 2005ILLINOIS – As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times: "With big-ticket casino projects awaiting approval and the controversy over the state's only available casino license set to rekindle, the Illinois Gaming Board's lone two members called on Gov. Blagojevich Tuesday to name at least one more person to their panel so they can resume doing business. "The board is supposed to have five members and hasn't been able to vote since late August, when board chairman Elzie Higginbottom and member Violet Clark resigned. That's left members Gary Peterlin and William Dugan without a quorum to vote on matters, including two casino expansion projects in western and southern Illinois that are expected to bolster state gaming tax receipts by tens of millions of dollars when complete. "…The governor has said finding people to serve on the gambling regulation panel has been difficult because of the scrutiny members have faced regarding where the state's last available casino license should go…" |
