Illinois Gaming Board Member Comment Raises Eyebrows2 September 2004CHICAGO, Illinois – As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times: "'When you're going down the road, watch your rearview mirror.' "That was a comment Wednesday from one member of the state's gambling-regulation board -- who supports a casino proposal for Rosemont -- to another, anti-Rosemont member during an early-morning public meeting. "After some nervous laughter from board staff, the anti-Rosemont member -- former La Salle County State's Attorney Gary Peterlin -- dismissed the remark from longtime labor leader William Dugan as "advice." Dugan was out of town and attended via speakerphone. "…His comment is surprising, one Illinois Gaming Board observer said, because mob allegations have hurt efforts to get the state's dormant 10th casino license providing much-needed tax revenue. "Emerald saw its Rosemont casino plan rejected in 2001 in part because of the alleged mob links of two company investors and a construction contractor…" |
