Illinois Gaming Board Head Stays Out of Emerald Casino Hearing11 June 2004ILLINOIS – As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times: "The state Gaming Board's chairman vowed Thursday not to be an "obstructionist" in a hearing to revoke Emerald Casino's dormant license, a trial-like process set to resume as soon as next month. "But Chairman Elzie Higginbottom said he and his fellow board members still hope to salvage a separate deal to see the license sold and routed to Rosemont. To do so, the board has picked lawyers independent of the Gaming Board's own legal team to advise it -- the latest sign of the rift between the politically appointed board and its hired staff. "Higginbottom tried to downplay that friction, which became public in March when the board bypassed its staff's choice of Des Plaines as the site for the Emerald license if a sale goes through…" |
