Illinois Gaming Board, Governor Settle Dispute14 April 2004ILLINOIS – As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times: "As the governor's office and state Gaming Board settled their dispute over the hiring of a special investigator to probe the board's approval of a casino bid for Rosemont, officials in Des Plaines on Tuesday were contemplating the fate of a city employee whose criminal past has become a lightning rod because of that suburb's stalled casino quest. "William Schneider, 34, has been on paid leave as Des Plaines' economic development director and assistant city manger since Saturday, after city officials learned he was convicted 10 years ago of embezzling $170,000 from JMB Realty, which is owned by Neil Bluhm. "Bluhm also owns Midwest Gaming & Entertainment, which still hopes to build a casino in Des Plaines should the Gaming Board reject Isle of Capri Casinos' plan for Rosemont. "…Gov. Blagojevich hopes a review by former U.S. Deputy Attorney General Eric Holder will quell the storm. The Gaming Board Tuesday agreed to hire Holder to perform an independent investigation into its 4-1 vote to name Isle of Capri Casinos the winning bidder for the state's only available gaming license…" |
