Illinois Gambling Case Heads to Trial

MAPLE PARK, Illinois – As reported by the (Illinois) Daily Chronicle: "More than seven months after being charged, 13 defendants facing gambling-related charges in Maple Park are finally all represented by attorneys and should head to trial soon.

"The 13 face charges of conspiracy to commit gambling and conspiracy to commit keeping a gambling place.

"The charges stem from a May raid of a local tavern by state officials who confiscated cash and video poker machines and other gambling equipment.

"…Thirteen people in all were charged, including the village's mayor, Mark Delaney, and its police chief, Chester 'Chet' Morris. Prosecutors allege the other 11 defendants paid out cash winnings to the gamblers…"
