Illinois Democrats Reject Governor's Gaming Board Appointee

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois – As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times: " In a highly unusual move, Senate Democrats Thursday rejected Gov. Blagojevich's lone appointee to the Illinois Gaming Board in apparent anger over the panel's decision to allow a casino in Rosemont.

"Vernon Hills accountant William E. Fanning, whom the governor appointed in January, drew only 18 of the 30 Senate votes he needed to be confirmed to a two-year term.

"…The Blagojevich administration did not criticize Senate action on the Fanning appointment.

"…The board has faced intense criticism for its February decision to award Illinois' dormant 10th license to a firm with plans to operate in Rosemont, a town some have linked to organized crime…"
