Illinois City Still Pursuing Casino Deal

ILLINOIS – As reported by the Daily Southtown: "Don't count Calumet City out of the casino sweepstakes.

"Aldermen and the city's lawyers are expected to meet behind closed doors today to discuss land acquisition for a casino, possibly one run by a Native American gaming company.

"…Leaders hope to score a profitable deal with a Midwestern tribe — whose identity hasn't been revealed — while wrangling continues in court over the license belonging to Emerald Casino Inc.

"…Discussions between Calumet City's lawyers and the tribe began more than a year ago. The tribe is believed to be interested in the former Ashland Chemical property along the Little Calumet River and adjacent to the Bishop Ford Freeway…"
