Illinois Citizen Group Urges Communities to Stop Casino15 July 2004ILLINOIS – As reported by the Daily Southtown: "Armed with anti-gambling statistics and a promise to fight, a group of about 30 residents urged the Lansing Village Board earlier this week to approve a resolution against the proposed Native American casino in Lynwood. "…The residents were part of a group called Citizens for Our Community. Several churches in Lynwood, Lansing and South Holland sponsor the group. "The group opposes a plan by the Ho-Chunk Nation to build a mega-casino and entertainment complex on 432 acres at the northeast intersection of Stony Island Avenue and Glenwood-Dyer Road. "The anti-casino group so far has held two general meetings, and at each meeting has promised to send a group to every village board in the area to lobby for an anti-casino resolution. "…The anti-casino group said Ho-Chunk's plan will allow the tribe to open its own businesses and sell goods for far less than other businesses because of the lack of taxes…" |
